What is Yasaka Shrine?
It is an old shrine that has been in existence since before the transfer of the capital to Heiankyo (794 AD), and is affectionately known as “Gion-san'' and “Yasaka-san'' by the locals of Kyoto.
The main enshrined deity, Susano no Mikoto, is worshiped as a deity who exorcises all kinds of disasters, and there are many deities enshrined within the grounds.
